Essential techniques for creating traditional silver jewellery for beginners and improvers, covering essential skills such as saw-piercing, texturing, forming, soldering and finishing.
This class is an ongoing traditional jewellery course for beginners and improvers, which covers different techniques each term to enable participants to create a minimum of one piece of silver jewellery.
Beginners will learn the essential techniques of saw-piercing, texturing, forming, soldering and finishing metal. We begin by practicing skills with copper and then move on to working with silver. We cover different techniques each term including: combining metals, making findings, bezel settings, twisting metal, patination and cold connections.
The tutor will provide all specialist tools and equipment at the term cost of $40.
A starter pack for beginners containing consumables and materials for the term project can be provided for $50.
Returning students can purchase some consumables and materials from the tutor or individually in consultation with the tutor.

- Fine black permanent marker eg. sharpie, stabilo
- Masking tape
- Double sided tape
- Notebook and pens
- Sketchbook and pencils
- Steel ruler
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Paint brush – fine
- Large box or tool box to contain materials
- 2x small containers with lid – individual portion jam jar or film canister size is ideal

- Apron
- Old hand towel or tea towel to dry metal
